My ford focus Mk2 has a knocking noise in the front left quarter, what is it?

I have jacked up the front end and nothing seeems to be loose, no loose movement in the wheel, shocker doesnt seem to be gone as car settles fast after shock test. there is a definate creak too which i have pin pointed to the top of the shock/spring where it swivels with the inner wing. any ideas, its a constant knocking which is deffo in the front n/s are
